The Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) CB 500 has unique features that make it the best system for specific cluster configurations: built in Logical Partitioning (LPAR’s) and the amount of memory per blade. HDS currently is the only system with LPARs on the blade with blades that can be configured with 1.5 GB of RAM. This makes the CB 500 Compute Node Platform ideal for large dataset configurations.

NSG recommends the Hitachi CR 220H for the head node server. The CR 220H meets the specifications for performing the control functions in the CB 500 Cluster platform and mates perfectly with the CB 500 compute nodes. The CR 220H will facilitate compute node communication and job processing along with management and scheduling functions.

Job Node
Job Node functions include job submission, management and monitoring. When multiple jobs are being sent to the cluster, the job node places the jobs in a queue, allocates resources and initiates the jobs on the compute nodes. If a separate job node is required for your configuration, NSG recommends the HDS CR 220H.

Storage Node
The storage node is responsible for organization, access and delivery of the raw data from the storage system to the compute nodes. In many cases, this function can also be performed by the head node. For configurations requiring a stand-alone storage node, the CR 220H can be provisioned.
